Room for Hope by Kim Vogel Sawyer with a giveaway

This was another fantastic book by a wonderful author. What would you do if someone came to your door and told you your brother was dead and he wanted you to care for his children? It would be harder than you think when you don’t have a brother. You find out that your husband had a second family at the same time you learn that he and his other wife are dead. Could you care for these children? Will Neva Shilling find room to love these other children? I was given a copy of this book from Waterbrook Multnomah for a fair and honest opinion. Please follow my blog and leave a comment by March 4 for a chance to win a copy of this book.

In a desperate time, can Neva find forgiveness for a grievous wrong—and make room for hope?

Neva Shilling has a heavy load of responsibility while her husband travels to neighboring communities and sells items from his wagon. In his absence, she faithfully runs the Shilling Mercantile, working to keep their business strong as the Depression takes its toll, and caring for their twins.

When a wagon pulls up after supper, Neva and her children rush out—and into the presence of the deputy driving a wagon carrying three young children. The deputy shocks her with the news that Warren and his wife have died, insisting it was their last request that the three children go live with “Aunt Neva.”

Neva’s heart is shattered as she realizes that Warren’s month-long travels were excuses for visits with his secret family. She wants nothing more than to forget Warren, but can she abandon these innocent children to an orphanage? Yet if she takes them in, will she ever be able to see them as more than evidence of her husband’s betrayal and love them the way God does?

Kim Vogel Sawyer is the highly acclaimed, best-selling author of gentle stories of hope such as What Once Was Lost and Through the Deep Waters. With more than one million books in print, Kim has garnered numerous awards including the ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers) Carol Award, the Inspirational Readers Choice Award, and the Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence. She lives in central Kansas with her retired military husband Don. She enjoys travel, quilting, and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

Amish Sweethearts by Leslie Gould

This was a great 2nd book in the Neighbors of Lancaster County series. Zane Beck, an Englisher, and Lila LehmanAmish) have grown up as next door neighbors. No one worried about their freindship. Then Zane decides to join the army mainly because he knows that he can’t have Lila. Can they ever be together? Can Zane survive his time in the army and can Lila handle what he is doing. She has grown up believing in not fighting. This is well written and comes to a wonderful conclusion. I received this book from Bethany House for a fair and honest opinion.

Can These Two Friends from Opposite Worlds Find Love? They’ve been best friends for years, but as high school ends, Zane Beck can’t help but look at his Amish neighbor, Lila Lehman, with different eyes. Her controlling father sees only one future for Lila, though, and arranges for her to be courted by an upstanding young Amish man. When Zane sees the two together, his plans for the future crumble, and he impulsively enlists in the Army, following in his father’s footsteps. However, the passing of years and the distance between them isn’t enough to halt their now hidden feelings for each other. If being together used to be difficult, it’s now impossible, especially with the Amish opposed to war. Zane’s service takes a dramatic turn when he’s sent to Afghanistan. Being on the front line and the reality of taking a life has him questioning whether he can continue to serve or not. But all choices have consequences–both his and hers. With Lila preparing to marry another, will these one-time sweethearts ever find the life together that they both still long for?

Burning Proof by Janice Cantore

This second book in the Cold Case Justice series was even better than the first. I did not want to put this book down. There were many twists and turns. Each cold case led to to clues in the others. Abby and Luke are still trying to solve the death of her parents and his uncle. Abby has doubts whether she wants to remain a police officer. How will this end. I loved it. I received this book from Tyndale blog Network for a fair Nd honest opinion. So looking forward to number three.

After months of investigating the brutal homicide of a young girl, Detective Abby Hart finally has the evidence she needs. But when the arrest goes terribly wrong, Abby begins to doubt her future as a police officer. As she wrestles with conflicting emotions, old questions about the fire that took her parents’ lives come back to haunt her.
“There is proof.” PI Luke Murphy can’t stop thinking about what Abby’s former partner, Asa Foster, mumbled just before he died. When he uncovers a clue to the murder of Abby’s parents and his uncle, he’s reluctant to tell Abby, despite his growing feelings for the beautiful detective.
A decade-old abduction case brings Luke and Abby together, but will his secret tear them apart?http://mediacenter.tyndale.com/downloads/press_kits/BurningProofAuthorQ&A.pdf

Drawing Fire by Janice Cantore

This was a fantastic first book of a series. I loved the story and look forward to the next book in this series. I love Abby Hart and Luke Murphy. Will they ever get together or will they find others? Can they solve the long ago deaths of her parents and his uncle. Will Luke stay a PI or will he get to work on a team to solve cold cases. I received this from bookfun.org for a fair and honest opinion. One case from her past defines homicide detective Abby Hart. With a possible serial killer stalking elderly women in Long Beach, California, Abby’s best lead is Luke Murphy, an irritating private investigator who saw a suspect flee the scene of the latest homicide. When Abby discovers that the most recent victim is related to the governor, she’s anxious to talk to him about a cold case that’s personal to her–one Luke is interested in as well.As she learns more about the restaurant fire that took her parents’ lives years ago, Abby discovers why Luke is so invested in finding the ones responsible. The more they uncover, though, the more questions they have. Can Abby find peace without having all the answers?

Hope During Heartache by Cheri Swalwell

This is a beautifully written book of testimonials about the loss of a child from miscarriage or disease. I am lucky that my two boys are 20 and 26 and are fairly healthy. I have never lost a child in any way but I loved to read these stories and you could feel their pain and how they came back to God. I received an ebook copy of this from book fun.org for a fair and honest opinion. Have you ever dealt with the pain of infertility? Heard the devastating words, “I’m so sorry but your child is no longer alive?” Lived with a heartache so deep it feels as though there will never be any relief?

By answering yes to any of these questions, you know how it feels to belong to an exclusive club. This group is designated for men and women who have had to learn how to live with the pain of either the lost dream of a child through infertility or the crushing reality that a child you love is no longer with you – the result of miscarriage, stillbirth, or death. It’s a group to which no one wants to belong, but nevertheless, the list of members of this group is long.
If you find yourself enrolled in this membership, know that you aren’t alone. There are many who have walked this road that are waiting to come alongside and help. Just as the picture on the cover shows the reality of a fierce storm with the hope of bright skies, there is Hope for the storm you are currently facing as well.
Step inside this book to hear from thirteen different men and women, through their own words, how they were able to find hope during their heartache. Let them offer you a chance to experience that hope for yourself.

Square Affair by Timothy J. Holt

I want to begin by saying that this book is definitely not a Christian fiction novel which is the type I have been reviewing lately.

This is a very interesting book. It was definitely not what I normally read. I had a hard time putting it down and I learned some things from this book. This takes place in the 1960’s in a small town. You learn a lot about many of the townsman. In some ways you learn a little too much but it is done in a fun way. You have to love the gossips in the town. What is found out during an arrest and trial will be hard to ever forget. I received a copy of this book through smith publicity Inc and netgalley for a fair and honest opinion.

Synopsis: In the small Midwestern town of Dewers, amidst the turmoil of the 1960s, the casual conversations of five men lead to public sex in the courthouse restroom. Their arrest for public indecency takes the town on a journey through good and evil that will alter it, as well as the five men and their families. Through it all the town confirms its perseverance of community and ability to survive.
