I love this series of cozy mysteries. This one is so much fun. The characters are all such fun. I loved the twist and turns that happen in this series. I look forward to reading many more of this authors books.

It was interesting to see how Hannah Claire was able to do some things when she and John David made it to Africa but I enjoyed the stories in Texas better. This was a wonderfully fun cozy mystery. I love Madeline’s character. She does things her own way and is trying to be a private detective. This was so much fun to read. I nodded.
He looked at me with those eyes that conjure up the idea of puppy dogs begging for treats. So deceptive. “You’re going to have to up the stakes then.”
“Well, this is the one where she goes into official active detective mode and decides if she even wants that kind of life.”

He was right and I knew it. Fortunately, I’d prepared for this moment. You see, I know him well. He’s a horror writer. He likes to torment in ways that make my worst meannesses seem petty (like the time I suggested killing off Chad in Past Forward—trust me. That was kind compared to his ideas).
So, I pulled out my bigger gun and plopped it on the table. I added ammunition. And grinned.

Hate me: Madeline’s faith and integrity are tested in this one—exponentially. Without giving away too much, her father even rebukes her!!!

Love the book: Mrs. Barnes is such a sweet mentor to Madeline
Hate me: Mrs. Barnes. That’s all I’m sayin’. Mrs. Barnes.

Love the book: Snippets of the heart get revealed.
Hate me: Russell. That’s all I’m sayin’. Russell.
So, there you have it. All the reasons you should read this book… and remember that the series isn’t over. Not by a long shot. It’s darkest before dawn. And um… a whole bunch of other clichés.

This is a wonderful romance. I loved Allie, Barney and Nikki. This is the third book in the Hudson Sisters series and they are all fantastic. It would probably be best to read these in the order they are written to really enjoy them. You learn a lot of secrets in this third book that ties everything together. This is a wonderfully sweet historical romance. This is the third book in the Cimarron Creek Trilogy. I loved all the characters throughout the series. Thea and Ranger Jackson really learn to love one another slowly but surely. I love the bit of intrigue where they are trying to find the mother of the baby that is found and they need to find out who the Gang of Four are. This is such a fun series of books. I love the quirky characters in this town. You do not have to read the books before this one but it is more enjoyable to read these in order to get to know who each of the characters are. I love Mae West and how she ended up being the owner of a Campground. This will make you laugh even though there are murders. This is a wonderfully sweet romance. This centers abound Mr. Emerson and Willow. These two characters are complete opposites who keep running into each other and when they try to get closer they cause something to go wrong. This will make you laugh and cry. This is a wonderful story of growing up in the hills of western Virginia during 1959. This was a hard time to grow up. This book has some bad language but is true to the time period. This takes place over about a year in these young people’s lives. This shows how people can be good and bad. I enjoyed this story. Playing cops was just a game until the bullets were real.
The gravy train hasn’t stopped in the hollers of western Virginia for more than thirty years when Stony Shelor starts his junior year at Jubal Early High. Class divides and racism are still the hardened norms as the Eisenhower years draw to a close. Violence lies coiled under the calm surface, ready to strike at any time.
On the high school front, the cool boys are taking their wardrobe and music cues from hip TV private dick Peter Gunn, and Dobie Gillis is teaching them how to hit on pretty girls. There’s no help for Stony on the horizon, though. Mary Lou Martin is the girl of his dreams, and she hardly knows Stony exists. In addition, Stony can’t seem to stay out of juvenile court and just may end up in reform school. A long, difficult year stretches out in front of him when a new boy arrives in town. Likeable bullshit artist Jack Newcomb dresses like Peter Gunn, uses moves like Dobie Gillis, and plays pretty good jazz clarinet.

Later, the boys hatch an ingenious scheme to help the deputies raid an illegal speakeasy and brothel. All the intrigue feels like fun and games to Jack and Stony until a gunfight with a hillbilly boy almost gets them killed. The stakes rise even higher when the boys find themselves facing off against the Ku Klux Klan.
